I haven't written since the World Series. I haven't been in mourning, although I must admit that I haven't been jonesing for baseball this winter as I normally do.
I think the reason I stopped writing is that for a couple of months I spent the vast portion of my leisure time playing Civilization III, a ridiculously fun and addictive epic game in which, over the span of 6000 years, the player builds a civilization, directs scientific research, and engages in warfare and diplomacy. There are several ways to win the game, including launching a spaceship, taking over the world, or creating the world's most glorious and respected culture. The Civilization Fanatics website and its discussion fora provide and endless source of ideas for different strategies and tactics to try, as well as player-made scenarios, some of which are excellent.
In short, the whole thing is a huge time suck, as Geek of all Trades would be if I gave it proper attention.
In the last month or so, though, the fixation on Civ III has finally started to fade; I've been reading again, and watching a couple of movies. I am brimming over with ideas for GOAT posts, and I do think that writing is better for me than playing video games. So I will write. I hope you will read.
