I've just discovered The Perry Bible Fellowship, a uniquely funny webcomic by Nicholas Gurewitch. I should say rediscovered, because I'm pretty sure I've seen it before, but somehow I forgot about it. I won't forget again.
(Click on the image to see a larger version in a pop-up window.) The comics are sick and subtle - it sometimes takes a second reading to grasp their peculiar brand of cruel, ironic, and surreal humor. The comics vary in style - from simple featureless figures reminiscent of Keith Haring, to a more detailed comics style like the one shown above, to spot-on invocations of famous illustrators like Edmund Gorey and Maurice Sendak - but all are cleverly drawn, perfectly paced, and united by a single theme - that the world of its author's imagination is a sick, nasty, violent, mean, and hysterically funny place.
